Tulsa Public Schools is a uniform district, however, we are continuing with a relaxed uniform policy for Disney Elementary.
Students must adhere to these policies. Students who elect not to abide by the dress and grooming rules set forth by our policy will be subjected to disciplinary actions. Parents will be contacted to bring appropriate dress for students not adhering to the uniform policy.
Shirts/Tops: Any solid color t-shirt, long sleeve t-shirt, polo shirt, button-up shirt, sweatshirt with no hood can be worn. Shirts MUST BE solid color with no decoration, writing, logo, stripes, etc. The cut of sleeveless tops must not expose any undergarments. Strapless tops are prohibited. Shoulder straps must be a minimum of the width of two fingers. Bare midriffs, low-cut necklines, off the shoulder, or bare backs are prohibited. Shirts must be of appropriate length, cut and meet these requirements while sitting & bending.
Pants/Bottoms: Pants/shorts can be khaki, navy or black. They can be straight legged or joggers. No sweat pants, athletic pants or athletic shorts are allowed. Jeans can be worn BUT they must have no holes, tears or rips. Pants & shorts shall be worn at the waist. Spandex, tights, bike shorts, swim wear & sleep wear are not permitted. Leggings cannot be worn as outerwear & can only be worn under a skirt. Jeggings can be worn in the appropriate colors only if they have back pockets. Shorts & skirts must be of modest length defined as a maximum of 6 inches above the knee of the wearer or not above the fingertips of the wearer with the arm fully extended, whichever is longer.
Footwear: Students need to wear appropriate footwear for protection and hygienic reasons while on school grounds, participating in school activities or using school transportation. House slippers, shower shoes, open toed sandals & flip flops are examples of unaccepted footwear. All shoes must have a back strap across the heel. Shoes with wheels are also not allowed.
Outerwear: Students must not wear outerwear in the classroom (coats, heavy jackets, hoodies, stocking hats, gloves, scarves, etc.) Students can wear a sweater or sweatshirt with no hood if they want something on in the classroom, but it needs to be a solid color. Hooded sweatshirts (hoodies) & winter jackets cannot be worn in the classroom & must be left in lockers.
Head Coverings/Sunglasses: Scarves, curlers, bonnets, bandanas, sweatbands, hats or other similar head coverings shall not be worn within the school building. Head coverings prescribed by a physician, approved by the schools administration for religious beliefs or for a special school activity will be handled on an individual basis. Sunglasses (unless prescribed by a physician) are not to be worn in class or within the school building.
General Rules:
Excessively large or baggy clothes and/or excessively tight or clothes that are too small for the stature of the student
Permitted garments need to be clean, and shall not have holes worn through, slashes or rips
Suspender straps must be attached as designed & worn on shoulders
Shirts must be appropriately buttoned
Zippers on pants must be zipped
Visible piercings shall be limited to the ear; dog collars, tongue rings, wallet chains, hair picks, chains that connect one part of the body to another or other accessories that pose a safety concern for the student or others
Religious/Heath Accommodations: When a bona fide religious belief or health need of a student conflicts with the school dress code, reasonable accommodation shall be provided. Any student desiring accommodation shall notify the school Principal in writing of the requested accommodation and the basis for the request along with any physician prescription.
