Quarter Two Commitment Forms Due October 31

We are excited to begin welcoming our elementary students back to in-person learning in November. Students engaging in in-person classes will be in school buildings on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Wednesdays will be distance learning days for all students.

Students in middle, junior high, and high school will continue in distance learning through the end of the calendar year and return to in-person classes on Monday, Jan. 4. (Click here for more information.)

We know that some parents may wish to have their children stay in distance learning. If you would prefer that your child continues in distance learning from home during quarter two, please complete our Quarter Two Commitment Form by logging into SmartChoice at www.tulsaschools.org/Q2form. Quarter two runs from Nov. 9 to Jan. 15.

If we do not hear from you by Saturday, Oct. 31, we will plan for your child to have in-person classes at his or her school.

Our school teams are working hard to prepare for our students' return, and our schools must have an accurate count of students returning. Opening schools is an extensive process during any school year, but this process will be significantly condensed as students return in a couple of weeks.

Safely opening school buildings requires a lot of preparation, including planning for safe transportation for students, safely providing meals, and providing proper personal protective equipment for all staff members and students.

We know that this is a difficult decision, and we want to make sure you have the information you need. Here are some important things you should know.

For in-person learning:

  • All students and adults are expected to wear masks that cover their noses and mouths. We will provide masks to students who need them.

    • Students will have opportunities for "mask breaks" throughout the day.

  • Families will be asked to complete a health-screening at home prior to coming to school.

  • Six feet of distancing in classrooms and on buses will be limited with in-person learning.

  • Our uniform policy will continue to be relaxed for the 2020-2021 school year. Learn more.

  • Students will continue to use their Chromebooks and the Canvas learning platform. All students except PreK and Kindergarten will bring their Chromebooks and chargers to and from school each day.

For distance learning:

  • Students who continue in distance learning will have less one-on-one support in Zoom from their teachers.

  • Schools will make every effort for students to keep their current teacher(s).

  • Students in distance learning will still be able to pick up breakfast and lunch meals free of charge.

  • Students will continue to use their Chromebooks and the Canvas learning platform.

While we are excited to welcome students back into the classroom, our families must work with us to keep everyone safe. You can help prepare for a safe return to school by talking with your child about the importance of wearing masks to help keep their peers and teachers safe.

We know you have a lot of questions, and we want to support you as you consider your options, click here for more information about safety.

We will continue to share information and updates about the second quarter of the school year on our website at www.tulsaschools.org/Q2.
